How to apply

All applications are through the APPLY website. Once you have applied on the website, we will review your application and then invite you to an online interview. We will email you with full details of your interview arrangements.

Top tips:

  • You will need two referees, who will complete their reference online.
  • Your personal statement will outline why you want to be a teacher and what personal qualities you have that make you suitable to start your training.
  • Please list all of your previous employment and work experience, not just that which relates to teaching.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for Schools Direct teacher training must be met by the time you start your teacher training course:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • GCSE English Language and Maths at C grade or equivalent
  • GCSE Science grade C for primary teaching applicants

*Any qualifications that were gained outside of the UK are likely to require a ENIC certificate.

If you need to gain GCSE qualifications, we are able to organise for equivalency tests which will meet the entry requirements.

The Interview Process

We follow a careful interview process to ensure that candidates are ready to start their training. There are two stages to the interview.

Stage 1 – online interview

  • Teaching activity – We will ask you to plan a 30 minute lesson and tell us about it in 5 minutes at the start of your online interview.
  • Interview – a formal interview to assess your readiness to train.
  • A document check – you will need to bring your qualification certificates and proof of ID with you. Original documents must be provided.

Stage 2 – Visit to partnership School

  • School taster day – You will visit one of our partnership schools to observe and may be asked to lead a learning activity with pupils.
  • Maths and English Tests – two 40 minutes tests.
